One of my favorite 반찬 [banchan – side dishes] that they used to serve for lunch at my previous job was 순두부찜 [sundubujjim – steamed soft tofu with sauce]. You can eat it leftover, with rice or without, and it’s a great source of protein and so easy to make when you’re feeling lazy and need something delicious.

The ingredients are relatively simple and if you have ever cooked Korean cuisine you may have a few of these in your pantry already!
Ingredients:
- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp Korean red pepper flakes (also known as gochugaru)
- 1.5 tsp sesame oil
- 2 tsp rice wine vinegar
- 2 tsp sesame seeds
- 2 tsp brown sugar
- 1 or 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 block soft tofu*
In a bamboo steamer, steam the tofu for about 10 minutes. Mix all ingredients and pour over the tofu. Enjoy!
*If the texture of soft tofu weirds you out (it’s not for everyone!) try pan frying extra firm tofu until crisp and then pouring the sauce over. Works great if you’re just getting into tofu!
